Confidence, Alignment & Beauty With Avital of Puzzle Makeup

Updated:

Beauty, confidence, and alignment are often discussed separately, but in reality, they’re deeply connected. When we feel supported in our bodies and comfortable in our skin, something shifts in how we show up in the world.

For Women’s Month, we spoke with Avital Elgaziel, founder of Puzzle Makeup, about evolving skin, authentic confidence, and why beauty should support women rather than pressure them to change.

E: To start, can you share a bit about your background and what led you to create Puzzle Makeup?

A: Before creating Puzzle Makeup, I spent many years in the beauty industry working closely with women, helping clients with their makeup and skincare. Through those experiences, I kept hearing the same frustrations — women felt like makeup was no longer working for their skin as it changed with time, hormones, sensitivity, or texture. And those changes were often affecting their self-esteem.

Those conversations stayed with me. I realized many women felt unseen by traditional beauty brands, which are often designed around a very narrow idea of “perfect” skin.

At the same time, I was going through my own skin changes and experiencing those challenges firsthand. That combination — listening to my clients and living it myself — ultimately inspired me to create Puzzle Makeup.

Puzzle was designed to reflect real women’s experiences. The goal was to create clean, adaptable makeup that works with evolving skin and feels accessible to women of different ages, skin tones, and lifestyles.

In many ways, Puzzle isn’t just my story — it’s a collection of the voices and experiences of the women I’ve worked with over the years.

E: Puzzle is built around the idea that makeup should work with your skin, not against it. What inspired that philosophy?

A: It came from watching how many women struggle with skin changes that aren’t talked about enough — hormonal fluctuations, rosacea, sensitivity, dryness, and texture.

Most makeup is formulated for an idealized version of perfection. When our skin no longer fits that mold, using those products can become frustrating.

I wanted to create products that acknowledge that skin is dynamic. Instead of heavy coverage that hides, Puzzle focuses on flexible textures that adapt and move with the skin.

The philosophy is simple: when makeup respects your skin, you stop fighting it and start working with it.

E: March is Women’s Month, and a theme we’re exploring at Etalon is women supporting women. What has that looked like in your journey as a founder?

A: Supporting women is exactly why I joined the beauty industry in the first place. I often felt parts of the industry were designed to make women feel insecure so they could be sold more products. That never sat right with me.

I wanted to create a space where women could feel beautiful in their own skin and understand that they are not broken — that makeup should enhance what you have, not change who you are.

Over the past 23 years, I’ve seen how powerful female support can be. Some of the most important moments in my journey came from women who were willing to share advice, open doors, or simply say, “I’ve been there too.”

Whether it’s mentors, collaborators, or the incredible community of women who use Puzzle and share their experiences, that support system means everything.

And I believe in paying that forward — creating a brand that listens to women, evolves with them, and celebrates their experiences.

E: Confidence is often framed as something external — appearance, success, validation. In your experience, what actually helps women feel confident in their own skin?

A: Real confidence comes from alignment — when the way you look, feel, and present yourself reflects who you truly are.

But before anything else, it starts with acceptance. Not the version of yourself in perfect lighting or with the perfect makeup, but the real version of you.

Makeup can absolutely boost confidence, but it works best when it enhances rather than covers. When your skin feels comfortable, and you recognize yourself in the mirror, the confidence that follows is very different.

It becomes less about perfection and more about ease.

Helping women understand that their imperfections are often what make them unique and beautiful has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

E: We often talk about posture as both physical and energetic — the way you carry yourself in the world. Do you see a connection between physical presence and confidence?

A: Absolutely. Everything about us — our experiences, our emotions, our habits — is connected.

The way we carry ourselves physically often reflects how we feel internally, but the opposite can also be true. When we change how we hold our bodies, it can shift how we feel.

Standing taller, breathing more fully, and feeling supported in your body changes your energy and presence. People respond to that, but more importantly, you feel it yourself.

I think what Etalon is doing with posture support taps into that same principle — how you hold your body isn’t separate from how you feel in it.

Confidence isn’t just visual. It’s embodied.

E: Running a company while navigating real life — stress, motherhood, aging, hormonal shifts — can take a toll on both our bodies and our self-image. How have your own experiences shaped the way you think about beauty and self-care?

A: Those experiences shaped Puzzle in many ways.

Life doesn’t pause while you’re raising kids or building something. You’re navigating family, running a business, stress, changing hormones, and lack of sleep all at the same time.

That reality made me rethink beauty as something supportive rather than performative.

Self-care isn’t about adding pressure to look perfect. It’s about small practices that help you reconnect with yourself — whether that’s skincare, a quick 10-minute makeup routine that brings back your glow, movement, or simply taking a moment to breathe.

E: What are some beauty habits or rituals that help you feel grounded and aligned when life gets busy?

A: For me, simplicity is key.

My morning and evening routines are non-negotiable. I take time to care for myself and my skin before anything else. A consistent skincare routine, a few minutes of makeup that enhances my features without feeling heavy, and taking a moment to pause before starting or ending the day make a big difference.

I also try to get outside in the morning whenever I can.

I’ve been wearing the Etalon Posture Bra during my workday, and honestly, having that physical reminder to hold myself upright has changed how I move through long stretches at my desk.

Beauty rituals are not just about the products you use — they’re about the intention behind them. Giving yourself a few moments of care and attention can make a big difference.

E: You’ve built a brand that speaks directly to women navigating changing skin, evolving identities, and new life phases. What do you think the beauty industry still gets wrong about women?

A: The beauty industry still tends to present a very narrow version of beauty — one that’s often frozen in time.

Aging is frequently treated as a problem to solve. Many product categories aimed at women over 40 are framed around fixing something: anti-aging, correcting, restoring. That language sends a message that what women are experiencing is a failure.

But real women are constantly evolving. Our skin changes, our priorities shift, and the way we relate to beauty evolves with us.

Those changes are not problems — they’re simply skin doing what skin does over time.

Beauty should adapt to women’s lives, not the other way around.

E: You recently started wearing the Etalon Posture Bra. What has your experience been like, and how has posture support influenced the way you move through your day?

A: What I noticed first was the physical reminder. It’s not uncomfortable, but it’s present in a way that made me more aware of how I was holding myself, especially when I’m sitting at my desk.

I spend a lot of time leaning forward while working, and the bra created a kind of reset that I didn’t even realize I needed.

That subtle support encourages you to sit and stand taller and be more aware of how you carry yourself. It’s not restrictive — it feels more like a gentle reminder.

After a few weeks, I noticed less tension in my upper back by the end of the day. And when posture improves, it really does shift your presence and energy.

E: If there’s one message you hope women take away from Puzzle — and from your work as a founder — what would it be?

A: I hope women feel that they are beautiful at every stage of life, and that beauty can evolve with them rather than be something they have to chase.

Your skin is not a problem to solve — it’s simply your skin.

Your life will change, your body will change, and that’s not something to fight. It’s something to work with. It deserves products and education designed for the realities of women’s lives.

That’s why Puzzle exists.

I want every woman who finds this brand to feel like someone finally created something with her in mind — not a younger version of her, not a corrected version of her, but her, exactly as she is.

When beauty supports who you are in the present moment, it becomes empowering rather than exhausting.

And confidence grows from there.

When beauty and alignment come from a place of support rather than pressure, confidence follows naturally.

Avital’s work with Puzzle Makeup reminds us that caring for our skin, our posture, and ourselves doesn’t have to be complicated — it just has to be honest.
